REUTERS/Leah MillisWASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The November record number of Americans quitting their jobs voluntarily rose to 4.5 million. This is a sign of confidence in America’s labor market and a signal that wages will rise for a while.
According to the Labor Department’s Job Openings Survey and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) report on Tuesday, there was a 370,000 rise in quits. This increase, which was reported by the Labor Department, was led by the hospitality and food service industries.
Also, there were significant increases in health care and social aid fields. In all four U.S. states, there was an increase in people leaving their jobs.
The number of job openings was a gauge of demand for labor, and fell by 529,000 to 10.6 million the final day of November. Reuters polled economists and predicted 11.075 millions vacancies. The number of job opportunities in construction, food service and other nondurable goods industries declined markedly.
The 6.7 million were not much different in terms of their hiring habits.
