(Reuters) -The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Tuesday suggested reducing the time between Pfizer BioNTech’s second COVID-19 vaccination dose and booster shot from six months to five.

Following Monday’s U.S. Food and Drug Administration decision to lower the duration of the booster dose and allow the administration of a third dose Pfizer BioNTech vaccine for children between 12 and 15 years, the move was made.

The CDC also recommends that severely or moderately immunocompromised children between the ages of 5 and 11 years get an additional shot 28 days following their first dose.

Pfizer BioNTech’s vaccine is now available to children between five and 11 years of age in the United States.

The CDC has not changed the booster interval recommendation for people who have received the Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:) or the Moderna (NASDAQ:) Vaccine, currently at 2 and 6 months.

On Wednesday, a CDC advisory panel will meet to discuss booster Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccinations for children 12-15 years old.
