(Reuters) – Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ 🙂 and Stellantis NV announced Wednesday that they will collaborate on developing cars and trucks using Amazon’s software and deploying electric vans manufactured by the automaker through the ecommerce giant’s delivery system.
These agreements will expand Amazon’s efforts in getting a larger foothold in transportation and Stellantis should close the gap to Tesla (NASDAQ:), in development of software-powered cars.
Amazon will be Stellantis first commercial customer of its new Ram ProMaster hybrid battery-electric vehicle, the companies announced. It is expected to go on sale in 2023.
Stellantis announced that Amazon Web Services was its preferred cloud provider to support its vehicle platforms in the agreement.
Stellantis and Foxconn had reached an agreement in May to establish a joint venture for the supply of in-car technology across all segments.
