Twitter creates monitoring team to prepare for Capitol riot anniversary -Breaking

(Reuters) –Ahead of one year anniversary of storming the U.S. Capitol in 2001, Twitter Inc The company announced Tuesday that it had created a team to examine the site’s social media accounts for any harmful content.

Twitter (NASDAQ:), and Facebook (NASDAQ.) are accused of enabling extremists in the organization of the siege that took place Jan. 6, 2021 when Republican supporters stormed Capitol to stop Congress from certifying Democrat Joe Biden’s victory.

Twitter stated that employees will monitor for potential risks associated with the anniversary from all departments, trust, safety and site integrity. It did not specify how many individuals were part of the monitoring group.

It stated that it would continue to track trending topics as well as search results for dangerous content via the platform.

On March 3, the Chief Executives of Twitter, Google (NASDAQ 🙂 and Meta Platforms Inc (previously known as Facebook) testified at a hearing before Congress. U.S. lawmakers asked them if they were responsible for the riot.

Then-Twitter Chief Executive Jack Dorsey was the only executive who answered “yes,” but said the “broader ecosystem” had to be taken into account.

Twitter spokesperson, a Tuesday statement said that the company had taken strong enforcement action against Twitter accounts and Twitter Tweets which incite violence and have the potential of leading to offline harm.
