CNBC’s Steve Carlisle, President of GM North America stated that trucks would continue to play a major role in franchises as we move the calendar. This means they will still be able to generate all the revenue and share. The goal is growth of the company during this transition, not shrinking it. Trucks must play an important role in that.

The Silverado EV RST features up to 664 horsepower, more than 780-pounds of torque and a 0-60 mph speed of under 4.5 seconds according to GM. The vehicle will also feature four-wheel steering, hands-free highway driving and 24 inch wheels.

According to the company, both initial Silverado EV versions will offer a range greater than 400 miles. They can also charge 100 miles within 10 minutes using a DC fast charging system.

Silverado EV top-end pricing is approximately $14,000 less than F-150 Lightning. Ford’s manufacturing platform and additional features are likely to explain the pricing differences. Ford’s traditional pickup sells many thousands each year, but the electric F-150 has many similarities to the F-150.

This compares to the electric Silverado, which is on the same platform as the recently launched GMC Hummer EV pickup.

Carlisle explained that Hummer is an important step, while Silverado was a leap into mainstream trucks.

Also, the $105,000 Silverado Silverado EEV RST Launch Edition is slightly less expensive. Rivian Automotive’sFully loaded R1T (a smaller, electric pickup) that was put on sale last year. Prices start at $67 500, and can reach $100,000.

Coming soon: Other versions

According to Steve Majoros (Chelsea vice president for marketing), GM will launch other Silverado EV versions after its initial launch in 2023. According to Majoros, GM will continue to determine the timing, production and volume of the Silverado EV.

GM promises investors its all-electric transition by 2035 to be financially profitable.

Carlisle declared, “That is certainly the goal which guides all of this.”

The role of fleet sales is viewed as important for EVs, specifically pickups — because of emerging data analytics and logistical tools automakers are eyeing as opportunities for recurring revenue with fleet customers.

Ford and GM have been increasingly interested in luxury pickup trucks, which has led to record profits and pricing. The U.S. has seen a surge in pickup trucks sales over the last eight year.

Carlisle explained that it was a franchise in our industry today. As all this happens, we won’t lose any ground.

Silverado EV

The 2024 Silverado EV has a lot in common with Chevrolet’s pickup but it is physically more similar to the GMC Hummer EV.

Both pickups are equipped with GM’s brand new technology. Ultium EV platform and batteries. These vehicles also feature new technology and noteworthy performance metrics, large interior screens and new exterior designs featuring different LED lightbars.

Silverado EV RT shares a special feature, a midgate. This is a feature shared with the Chevrolet Avalanche pickup GM made for over a decade starting in 2001. Rear seats of the vehicle can be folded down, and the glass over them can be removed and put in the seat. This feature increases the bed size by nearly one-third the length of the vehicle, from five feet 11 inches and eleven inches to almost 11 feet.

Ryan Vaughan is the Chevrolet Silverado EV design director. “This is not the new Avalanche, however.

Chevrolet representatives promise that, despite its new look, the Silverado EV will still deliver all the traditional truck buyers have come to know and love.

“It’s called Silverado for a reason,” Majoros said. “It is a powerful, great brand.

According to GM, the Silverado EV’s work-truck version will have 510 horsepower and 615 lb feet of torque. They are slightly higher than those of current Chevrolet Silverado 1500 models. However, the EV model will have lower towing and payload ratings than other models.

Customers can reserve the $105,000 Silverado Electric Vehicle RST at Chevrolet starting Wednesday at noon. Initial delivery of the WT pickup is to fleet customers.
