The Drone Racing League and Hivemind’s Playground Labs Partner to Launch First Play-to-Earn Crypto Sports Game on Algorand BlockchainDrone racing will soon be the new frontier in sport. Today, Playground Labs, a play-to-earn (P2E) gaming affiliate of crypto-investment fund, Hivemind Capital Partners (Hivemind), and the Drone Racing League (DRL), the world’s premier, professional drone racing property, announced a partnership to extend DRL’s high-speed drone races beyond IRL and esports and into the metaverse.
Algorand is the world’s leading blockchain platform. The first P2E competition will see players race DRL drones in order to win cryptocurrency. The DRL game achieves DRL’s goal of leveraging Algorand’s blockchain for their Digital Drone Racing series launch in the metaverse and marks Playground Lab’s inaugural product, setting a trend for more sports P2E application-development in Web 3.0.
We are excited to announce Playground Labs, which will help build the infrastructure for the metaverse economic system and allow everyone to make real economic benefit by playing games that they enjoy. Drone Racing League, which is the best inclusive, innovative and high-tech sports, is DRL. DRL will be used to build the metaverse economy and future global economies. P2E gaming will provide community, economic sustainability, and genuine engagement for players around the globe.
said Playground Labs CEO Sam Peurifoy.
The global gaming, cryptocurrency and drone markets are worth over $2 trillion as the emerging global audience of young, technology-obsessed “Tech-setters,” who love gaming, crypto, and immersive sports like DRL, continues to rise.
Playground Labs and DRL are delighted to collaborate to bring you the first ever play-to-earn drone racing games on Algorand’s Blockchain. We will work together to accelerate DRL’s growth and become the first omnichannel sport league. This will allow our fans and pilots to race drones in the physical, virtual and metaverses, which is crucial for any other sports leagues.
Rachel Jacobson, President of DRL.
Since its beginning, DRL has blended the digital with the real to reward fans in multiple ways. Through their SIM Tryouts, the league turns players into professional pilots. The DRL SIM offers cash prizes for top-rated drone racers. It is also the first game that can be legally gambled on by fans. DRL’s first P2E game on the Algorand blockchain will unlock next generation fan experiences, create new cutting-edge brand integrations, and take DRL’s “real-life video game” to a different dimension.
DRL, as a technology-powered sports, continues to invent and use Alogrand’s fast and scaleable blockchain platform. DRL and Playground Labs are thrilled to launch a digital racing game for drones. This will allow fans to own drones and earn money.
Algorand, COO W. Sean Ford
As DRL prepares for the 2021-22 DRL Algorand World Championship Season’s finale in Las Vegas, CES has all of this P2E news. The most competitive drone racing event, the DRL Vegas Championship Race Presented by T-Mobile, will feature the world’s best drone pilots, a spectacular aerial course outside T-Mobile Arena, and a free outdoor concert from the Grammy Award winning rock band, Weezer.
T-Mobile’s DRL Vegas Championship Race will air Saturday February 5th and Sunday February 20th at 12:01 EST.
