Drone racing will soon be the new frontier in sport. Today, Playground Labs, a play-to-earn (P2E) gaming affiliate of crypto-investment fund, Hivemind Capital Partners (Hivemind), and the Drone Racing League (DRL), the world’s premier, professional drone racing property, announced a partnership to extend DRL’s high-speed drone races beyond IRL and esports and into the metaverse.

Algorand is the world’s leading blockchain platform. The first P2E competition will see players race DRL drones in order to win cryptocurrency. The DRL game achieves DRL’s goal of leveraging Algorand’s blockchain for their Digital Drone Racing series launch in the metaverse and marks Playground Lab’s inaugural product, setting a trend for more sports P2E application-development in Web 3.0.

As DRL prepares for the 2021-22 DRL Algorand World Championship Season’s finale in Las Vegas, CES has all of this P2E news. The most competitive drone racing event, the DRL Vegas Championship Race Presented by T-Mobile, will feature the world’s best drone pilots, a spectacular aerial course outside T-Mobile Arena, and a free outdoor concert from the Grammy Award winning rock band, Weezer.

T-Mobile’s DRL Vegas Championship Race will air Saturday February 5th and Sunday February 20th at 12:01 EST.
