Tweeters Revel in $2.2M Bore Ape NFT Stealth: All My Apes Gone

Todd Kramer (an artist) is a member the Bored Ape Yacht Club. (NYSE:). He revealed that $2.2 million of his NFTs were stolen by phishers. The artist clicked on malicious links that were supposed to be crypto-app gateways. Kramer realized he had been scammed and took to Twitter to share:

“I’ve been hack. My apes are gone. I just bought this, help me!”

Surprisingly the artist received more trolls than sympathizers when he arrived at his home. The trolls instead incorporated his distress message into a well-known song lyric. OpenSea saved the artist by ‘frozing’ the pilfered animals. The alleged stolen Bored Apes can’t be bought or sold on the NFT Marketplace until this ban is lifted. Kramer was also assisted by some crypto Twitter users who were empathetic and helped him recover his tokens.

Bored Apes’ development has been gradual over the past few months. When the CryptoPunks “floor price,” which was the lowest in the series, reached 60 Ethereum ($200,000), the project turned CryptoPunks.

Bored Apes: An easy target to fraudsters?

Bored Apes has been bought by celebrities like Jimmy Kimmel and Serena Williams. Due to the fact that Bored Apes is now in high demand, fraudsters and hackers are ready to scam NFT-newbies.

Calvin Becerra (an NFT collector) clicked on a Discord Server link that enabled hackers to take three Apes with over $1 million. Becerra posted a distress message on Twitter asking for people to refrain from trading or buying stolen apes. Unfortunately, this was not answered. Some viewed him as reckless, while others recommended that he retrieve his art by right-clicking the image and saving it.
