AMSTERDAM (Reuters) – One swinging a sledgehammer and the other a crowbar, twin brothers Steven and Brian Krijger grin as they take turns pulverising a Peugeot (OTC:) 106 spray-painted with the words “F*** COVID”.

The participants are members of CarSmash, a Dutch initiative that helps locked down locals release the anger and frustration they have accumulated over a pandemic.

Dutch bars, restaurants, and many stores are now closed as a result of curbs that were implemented in December. This is because the government, which has been trying to limit coronavirus outbreaks to a record level, will not review its policies until January 14.

Merlijn Boshuizen runs CarSmash from Vijfhuizen. He says that clients start by spray painting “what’s important in their lives” on their vehicle.

“Whenever they begin to wreck the car, we ask them not to look at the ground, but to feel power and every vein of the body. We then tell them to stop trying to control it.

Julie Scott, a vocal coach and singer is located a few miles south of the Hague. She runs “Screech at the Beach,” whose similar goals she created while searching for something physical to relieve some tension that had built up from not being able work indoors.
