REUTERS/George FreyNEW YORK (Reuters), Purdue Pharma allowed Friday’s U.S. court decision to allow Purdue Pharma to contest her refusal of legal protections to the Sackler family who are OxyContin makers. This was critical to Purdue Pharma’s bankruptcy reorganization plan.
Purdue is now able to appeal the decision of U.S. District Court Judge Colleen McMahon that allows it to keep intact the $4.5 billion settlement in opioid litigation. This was the core of its plan.
McMahon had reversed a bankruptcy judge’s order approving the deal in December. So-called “nondebtor” releases are provided to shield the Sacklers in future opioid-related lawsuits.
