Iran imposes sanctions on Americans over 2020 killing of top general -Breaking

DUBAI (Reuters), – Iran imposed new sanctions Saturday on dozens of Americans over General Qassem Solimani’s 2020 death in a drone strike.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry claimed that the 51 Americans had been attacked for “terrorism” as well as human rights violations. Although the Iranian authorities can seize assets held in Iran by these individuals, it is likely that this will be symbolic.

In a statement, the ministry stated that 51 people were targeted by US for their role in terrorist crimes against General Qassem Solimani and other victims and promotion of terror and violation of fundamental human rights.

Soleimani (commander of Iran’s Qudsforce, the overseas arm, of the elite Revolutionary Guards), was killed in an attack by drones on Jan. 3, 2020. This strike was ordered by President Donald Trump.

U.S. general Mark Milley was the chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff, and a former White House national security advisor Robert O’Brien.

Iran announced an identical move one year ago and placed sanctions on Trump, as well as several other high-ranking U.S. officers for “terrorist or anti-human right” acts.

Ebrahim Raisi of Iran, spoke on the occasion of the 2nd anniversary Soleimani’s death. He said that Trump should be tried for his murder or Tehran will take revenge.

After withdrawing in 2018 the United States from Iran’s 2015 nuclear agreement with world powers, Trump declared war on Iranian politicians, officials and businesses.

Current indirect talks between Iran and America are taking place in Vienna to salvage the 2015 accord.
