World Mobile Hires Ex Vodafone Mass Segment Marketing Head as Its New CEO
  • Steve James is the new CMO at World Mobile.
  • The decision of hiring Steve marks the company’s mission for growth in the market and user base.
  • It aims to be one of the top blockchain companies.

World Mobile, a global mobile network that uses blockchain technology has made the final move in its mass adoption phase by hiring Steve James to be its Chief Marketing Officer. Additionally, James was previously Head of Mass Segment Marketing at Vodafone.

After introducing a progressive transformation in Vodafone’s mass-market proposition that paved for a significant increase in revenue and active users for the last two years, James brings record-breaking advent to an already powerful World Mobile team. Micky Watkins, CEO of World Mobile said:

The goal of our work has been mass adoption. Right now, around the world, over 3 billion people have no access to the internet, banking, or digital identities because traditional, old-school networks think it’s too expensive to do anything about

Additionally, he said that inaccessibility to the internet because it’s expensive is no excuse. The company is now in the phase of connecting the unconnected. This will require many people to run Earth or Air Nodes and they’ll need them soon.

James commented further on James, saying that he had joined the team to address these issues, and also saw the good side of introducing O2, Vodafone, or giffgaff to a lot of people.

Before James entered World Mobile, he worked as Marketing Director at giffgaff Gameplan, Head of Mass Segment at Vodafone, Head of Brand and Advertising at Tesco (OTC:) Mobile, and Head of Pay & Go at 02, helping these companies to stay strong and develop the market share and user base.

It is James’s first step into the blockchain industry. James spoke about his future with World Mobile.

I’m very excited to join the World Mobile team. Not only are they combining humanitarian goals with a decentralized ethos that gives back to its users, but they’re the only challenger brand in the space that’s offering a radically new and fairer approach to telecoms. It feels like the biggest leap forward in decades for the telecom industry. Airbnb and Uber’s sharing economies turned entire industries on their heads and World Mobile is doing the same for telecoms, letting people earn and change the world at the same time.

It had a very successful blockchain-mobile system, thanks to the partnerships it made with Fulham FC and the Zanzibar government. It was also granted membership to ITU, as well as telecom licenses in Tanzanian and Zanzibar. James joined the company in this period of rapid growth as CMO.

The company’s core focus is on three things: connecting people around the globe, creating value for the sharing economy, supporting networks and mass adoption of the technology to close the digital divide.

Watkins further said that like how the company’s three-year partnership with Fulham FC rooted growth, hiring James glowed all the three key things. With a great portfolio of industry experience, growth, and passion for customer experience, James is the most valuable contributor to the company’s objectives for framing as one of the leading blockchain companies across mainstreams.

As of now, there are more blockchain projects that focus on crypto niches. James’s hire as CMO can establish World Mobile’s intention to lead in blockchain mainstream and connect hundreds of thousands of people in the world.
