(Reuters) – Martin Luther King Jr.’s daughter believes that her father would be disappointed by the efforts to limit voting rights in certain parts of the United States.

    “What’s going on right now would not surprise him, it would disappoint him, ” said Bernice King, who serves as chief executive of the King Center for Nonviolent Social Change in Atlanta.

    Biden’s speech comes as Democrats gird themselves for tough 2022 midterm contests that could strip them of a congressional majority and any chance of federal changes to voting laws.

Former President Donald Trump still claims that 2020’s election was stolen from Biden’s Democrats by voter fraud, in spite of recounts and investigations finding no support for the claim. Bernice King regards the cases of George Floyd, Ahmaud Abery and Ahmaud Alamy as “a turning tide”, and adds that these court cases would not be possible without just and fair district attorneys.

“So that’s the reason voting is crucial, all of that is tied back our democracy, voice, and ballot,” she stated.

    The youngest daughter of the iconic civil rights leader said that despite the obstacles, she was hopeful and determined to be part of the solution.

“I am certain that eventually we will experience some transformation and change. We will win some victories, even though it may not all at once.
