Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

The NSE closed with the gain of 0.25%, which was enough to reach a 1-month new high. Meanwhile, the index gained 0.14.

These were the best performers of the session Tata Steel Ltd (NS): traded at 1221.15 after the close, up 6.45%, or 73.95 point. Meanwhile, JSW Steel Ltd (NS.:) gained 4.69% (or 30.80) to finish at 687.85, while Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.. (NS.:) was up 3.5% or 29.30 to 865.50 during late trade.

These were the worst performers of the session. Wipro Ltd (NS): The close was marked by an 8.02% drop or 41.60 points, and traded at 649.75. Asian Paints Ltd., NS:) dropped 2.47% (or 87.55%) to close at 3456.25 HDFC Bank Ltd (NS): The decline in the number of points was 28.65 to 1528.00, or 1.84%.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:) which rose 6.40% to 1220.60, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:) which was up 3.53% to settle at 865.75 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:) which gained 2.30% to close at 2018.10.

Wipro Ltd. (BO) was the worst performer, falling 6.00% at 649.85 in late trading. Asian Paints Ltd. was also down at 2.47% and settled at 3456.75. HDFC Bank Ltd. was at 1.81% at 1528.35.

Indian National Stock Exchange: Rising stocks outnumbered falling ones by 928 to-867. 28 ended unchanged. On Bombay Stock Exchange, 1659 rose, 1641 fell, while 79 ended unaffected.

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.’s shares rose by 3.50% to a 5-year peak; an increase of 29.30 to 855.50. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO) shares rose by 3.53%, or 29.55 to 865.55.75 to reach 5-year highs. Shares in Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:) rose to all time highs; rising 2.30% or 45.30 to 2018.10.

For February delivery, gold futures fell 0.31% to $1821.65 per troy an ounce. In commodities trading, crude oil for February delivery rose 0.04 percent to $82.68 per barrel. The March Brent oil contract was up 0.13 percent to $84.80 per barrel.

USD/INR was at 73.923 with a 0.2% increase, and EUR/INR was at 84.7295 with a 0.37% rise.

At 94.820, the US Dollar Index Futures fell 0.09%.
