REUTERS/Brian Snyder/File Photo(Reuters) – Biogen Inc (NASDAQ 🙂 works with Goldman Sachs (NYSE 🙂 in order to identify potential acquisition targets, Stat News reported Thursday, citing an unnamed person.
Reports indicate that the company’s board was open to acquisitions amid turmoil over Aduhelm, its controversial Alzheimer’s drug.
Biogen has not yet responded to Reuters’s request for comment.
The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), announced Tuesday that it will cover Aduhelm and other similar treatments only for those enrolled in clinical trials approved by the CMS, threatening to sell the drug.
Michel Vounatsos was Biogen’s Chief Executive Officer and spoke to analysts in a conference call on Thursday. He said that management had been working closely with them on both tactical, short-term, but also on strategic options.
Vounatsos responded to an inquiry about whether Vounatsos would be open to discussing strategic options that could help protect shareholder value in the light of Aduhelm.
In June, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Aduhelm despite the fact that outside advisors had voted against the approval.
