LONDON, (Reuters) – The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was joined by his staff in Downing Street to mourn Queen Elizabeth’s husband. It happened last year when indoor mixing was forbidden for residents of different homes.

Johnson faces the gravest crisis of his premiership following revelations regarding a series gatherings at Downing Street during COVID lockdowns. Some were held when normal people could not bid farewell in person for dying family members.

Johnson won a stunning victory election in 2019. He apologised Wednesday for hosting a “bring-your own alcohol” event at his residence, during Britain’s first coronavirus lockingdown. Johnson admitted that he was there.

Two other drink parties were held in Downing Street, the Telegraph reported. These were when indoor and outdoor social gatherings were restricted. According to the newspaper, Johnson was in Chequers Country on that date.

Next day Queen Elizabeth bid Philip farewell.

The 95-year old Elizabeth, dressed in black with a black trimmed face mask and a white-trimmed black dress, stood by herself as her husband of 72 years, was taken into the Royal Vault of St George’s Chapel.

According to the Telegraph, such was the excitement in Downing Street that employees went to a nearby supermarket to purchase a case of alcohol and used their laptops to listen to music. A swing belonging to the Prime Minister’s son had been broken.

Johnson’s opponents have demanded that he resign. They portrayed Johnson, 57 years old, as a charlatan. He made the British follow the strictest rules of peacetime history and his staff drank.

A growing but small number of Conservative Party members echo those concerns, fearing that it could cause lasting damage to their electoral prospects.

Johnson offered a range of explanations for the parties. These included denials that rules had been broken and understanding anger at hypocrisy in the British state.

APOLOGIES

James Slack (ex-director of communications) was at Downing Street for a party to leave. On Friday, he said that he wanted “to apologise unequivocally for the anger, hurt, and caused”.

Slack made the statement to PA Media, stating that the event “shouldn’t have occurred at the time it did.”

British police announced on Thursday that they wouldn’t investigate Johnson’s house during coronavirus lockdowns unless there is evidence from the government of possible criminal offenses.

Damian Hinds was asked his reaction to the news reports about parties that were made the day prior to Philip’s funeral.

Hinds stated that “I was shocked” to have read the document. “We’ll have to wait and see what else comes up in this investigation.”

“This was a very dark period for the whole of our country.”
