Walgreens, CVS shut some stores as Omicron variant complicates staffing issues -Breaking

(Reuters] – U.S. drugstore chains Walgreens Boots Alliance, CVS Health Corp and CVS Boots Alliance announced Friday that some of their locations were temporarily closed due to staffing concerns triggered recently by an increase in COVID-19.

CVS claimed that store closings for one or two days on weekends were temporary due to Omicron coronavirus, which is rapidly spreading in the United States.

CVS stated in an email that the adjusted hours of operation in these stores were temporary.

U.S. Department Stores and Drugstore Chains, including Macy’s Inc. (NYSE:), and Walmart (NYSE:), were forced to close down stores or reduce their hours due to Omicron coronavirus.

A Walgreens spokesperson stated that the closings will affect only 1% of its nearly 9,000 stores in an email statement.

The spokesperson stated that it is a very limited and case-by-case situation and does not apply to specific areas or regions. However, the pharmacy makes every attempt to be open and staff the local pharmacies.

Walgreens stated that it is working quickly to send additional employees to affected stores.
