Tesla asked Cooley to fire lawyer who worked on SEC Elon Musk probe

For your legal needs TeslaA law firm was asked to fire its attorney or lose its work on the electric carmaker being led by Elon MuskThe Wall Street Journal reported Saturday.

Tesla had previously employed the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as a lawyer. According to publication, the attorney spoke with Musk during the investigation by the agency into Musk’s claim in 2018 that he received funding for Tesla’s privatization. This investigation led to a settlementMusk agreed to pay a fine of $20 million and be removed as Tesla chairman.

The Journal reports that Tesla’s lawyer asked Cooley late last year to fire Cooley, an attorney involved in the SEC investigation. This was according to people familiar with this matter. The associate was not fired by the firm.

According to the Journal, Tesla moved to hire more lawyers for several cases or replace Cooley since December.

According to the Journal, Musk’s SpaceX rocket firm has stopped cooperating with the law office on regulatory issues.

CNBC reached out to Tesla, SpaceX, and Cooley for comments but they did not respond immediately.
