(Reuters) – Enrique Tarrio is a leader of right-wing Proud Boys. He was sentenced to four months and a fortnight in prison for burning a Black Lives Matter banner in a Washington historical African American Church in December 2020.

Tarrio was one of the Proud Boys that stole the banner at a Washington demonstration on December 12, 2020. Tarrio, according to remarks he made afterwards, set the banner on fire. Tarrio pleaded guilty and was sentenced to prison in August. He began his sentence in September.

Tarrio didn’t take part in the deadly Jan. 6, 2020 riots at U.S. Capitol. Tarrio was taken into custody two days after he arrived at Washington to stop Congress from certifying that Democrat Joe Biden won the November 2020 election victory over Republican Donald Trump.

According to the FBI, his arrest in January 2021 was made to prevent the Jan. 6 events when other Proud Boys members were arrested.

The right-wing members face criminal charges, including conspiracy and destruction of property government property.
