LONDON, (Reuters) – A British woman died trying to save the Tonga dogs that she was caring for after an underwater volcano eruption. Her brother confirmed this Monday.

Angela Glover (55) had been in South Pacific since she married James and established Tonga Animal Welfare Society. This society provides shelter for stray dogs and rehabs them before they are rehomed.

Nick Eleini, her brother, said that he understood the tragedy and tried to save his dogs.

He stated that “She loved people, and she loved animals,” and that this was something that he had heard from his mother. The strange thing about this was that she was more attracted to the dogs with the worst skin.

TVNZ, a New Zealand broadcaster reported that she had been swept away in a wave and her husband was able to keep hold of a tree.

Eleini stated that the body of Eleini had been discovered and that the news broke the hearts of her family.

Angela was our family’s heart. Our family’s emotional center, she was it. He said, “And, you know what, that heart has now been gone.”

Australian officials stated that the initial reports of Saturday’s earthquake and tsunami did not show any large-scale casualties. But, Australian police were on hand to report significant damage.
