LONDON (Reuters – Boris Johnson’s former top adviser claimed the British prime Minister lied to Parliament about his knowledge of a lockdown party at Downing Street. This was nonsense according to Johnson’s deputy on Tuesday.

Questioned about whether the prime Minister’s premiership is over, Dominic Raab, deputy prime minister, stated: “Look, it’s absurd to suggest that he’s lied.

According to Times Radio, “He has made it quite clear to House of Commons. He took questions on it, and said that he believed it was work-related.”

Johnson expressed regret to parliament last week that he attended a “bring you own alcohol” event in Downing Street’s Garden on May 20, 2020. He said that it had been a work function.

Dominic Cummings was an architect of Britain’s exit from the European Union. He is also a former senior advisor to Johnson. Johnson resigned in November 2020 after acrimonious remarks.

His blog stated, “Not only me, but all other eyewitnesses that discussed it at the same time would swear under Oath this was what happened.”

Raab was asked if Johnson should quit if he had been lying. He said that he wouldn’t speculate on hypotheticals.

Johnson’s apology followed ITV (LON.) News received an email invitation by Martin Reynolds, Johnson’s Principal Private Secretary to attend a May 20, 2020 event. Reynolds asked that attendees “bring their own alcohol”.

Cummings stated that Reynolds had been told by at least 2 people to cancel his invitation. Reynolds then checked with Johnson and decided if the invitation should be accepted.

Cummings stated in his blog that “The PM agreed it should.”

Sue Gray, senior civil servant Sue Gray, is looking into a number of allegations against Johnson and his staff as well as officials from his official residence at 10 Downing Street. People should not wait to see the results of her investigation, according to senior ministers.

Johnson’s popularity has plummeted due to the scandals, and so his Conservative Party support has fallen in opinion polls. A rising number of Conservative lawmakers believe he should resign.

Maria Caulfield, junior minister of health, stated on her website that she would be seeking action against any person who is found to have violated the rules.

“It was clear that there existed a culture within Number 10, where the spirit, even though the rules were technically not broken, was the norm. This is totally unacceptable.”
