WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – A senior administration official said that the Biden administration was “actively engaged” with wireless carriers and airlines as well as manufacturers of airplanes, federal agencies, and other key federal agencies in order to resolve a looming crisis.

Airlines are preparing to cancel a significant number of passenger and cargo flights in the coming hours to prepare for AT&T (NYSE:) and Verizon (NYSE:)’s new 5G C-Band service that starts on Wednesday, after warning on Monday of “catastrophic” impacts.

Wireless carriers should not be allowed to use certain wireless towers located near airport runways to prevent flight interruptions.
