(Reuters) – Ford Motor Co (NYSE:) Inc and ADT Inc created a joint venture named Canopy for $105 million to market and develop in-vehicle security solutions for both commercial and residential customers.

In 12 months time, the first standalone system will use video cameras to track vehicles and other equipment. A mobile app will allow customers to stream live video.

The systems can be self-installed in many vehicle models and made available to Ford dealers as well as other retailers and online. ADT offers monitoring services with a monthly subscription.

Canopy does not disclose prices and fees.

According to Christian Moran (interim chief executive), Canopy will eventually develop original equipment systems for the factory.

Ford has invested about $63million in Canopy, which is 60%. ADT is investing about $42million, or 40%.

Ford will be first to provide vehicle security system to current customers. Canopy however expects to contact other car manufacturers as well as technology and insurance companies.

Ford’s AI-driven cam technology will be integrated into the vehicle security system. The package is about as big as a dashcam. It can also be installed in the van’s cargo area or pickup bed.

Canopy is a launch partner of Ford Pro’s commercial services unit, and plans to sell the first systems and subscription service to commercial truck and van owners in the United States and UK early next year. This includes Ford’s F-150 Lightning and F-150 Lightning pickups, Transit vans, and E-Transit vans.
