Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

The index fell by 0.96% at the NSE close, and it lost 1.08%.

Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd., which gained 3.91% (or 6.40 points) to trade at 170.25 by the close, were the top performers. Meanwhile, Tata Motors Ltd (NS:) Added 1.97%, or 10.05 points, to reach 520.85 Coal India Ltd (NSS:) increased 1.93% to 163.90, or 3.10 point in late trading.

These were the worst performers of the session. Shree Cements Ltd. (NS): Traded at 26395.00 after the close, down 2.80% or 756.55 points. Infosys Ltd (NS-:) dropped 2.80% or 53.70 to close at 1867.05 Asian Paints Ltd. (NS): was at 3280.40, down 2.77%.

Top performers in the BSE Sensex 30 include State Bank Of India, which rose 1.83% at 515.90 and Tata Steel Ltd. (BO) that was up 1.19% at 1208.75. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO) gained 1.17% at close at 8008.50.

Infosys Ltd.(BO:), which fell 2.77% at 1867.70 late trade, Asian Paints Ltd.. (BO;) that lost 2.71% at 3281.10, and Hindustan Unilever Ltd.. (BO) that was down 2.41 at 2312.00 close.

The India National Stock Exchange saw falling stocks surpass advancing by 964-838, and 22 ended unchanged. On the Bombay Stock Exchange however, 1754 was down and 1530 were up, and 85 ended unaffected.

The February Gold Futures were up 0.3% or 6.65, to $1819.05 per troy ounce. Other commodities traded included Crude oil, which rose by 1.44 to reach $86.05/barrel, and March Brent oil, which rose by 1.08/1.03 to trade for $88.54/barrel.

USD/INR declined 0.30% at 74.394 while EUR/INR dropped 0.01% at 84.4280.

At 95.545, the US Dollar Index Futures fell 0.19%.
