TOKYO (Reuters) – Toshiba (OTC) Corp said on Wednesday it had restarted part of production at a Oita semiconductor plant, south Japan. This was after production was halted following a powerful earthquake in the region at the weekend.

One of the two production lines at the factory was restarted on Wednesday, Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corp said in a statement. However, it did not specify when the second line would be reopened.

The system LSI chip plant is responsible for approximately 60% of the chips that are sold to automotive manufacturers as well as industrial machinery producers.

Other domestic companies, like Renesas Electronics Corp., make the chips.
