BERLIN (Reuters – Germany reported Wednesday a record 164,000 COVID-19 infection in one day. The lower house of Parliament was preparing to discuss proposals that would either strongly encourage or require residents to get vaccinated.

A little over 75% have received at least one vaccine dose. This is lower than the figures in France, Spain or Italy, which are 83%, 83%, and 86% respectively. The vaccination campaign has been stuttering.

These proposals include the requirement that all adults be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Germany’s success in controlling infections by quarantines and case tracking was evident early in the coronavirus epidemic.

Public discontent has risen since last year’s fallout from regional coordination and vaccine-skepticism.

Omicron, a highly infectious variant of Omicron, is causing cases to soar.

Germany’s COVID-19 total reached 117.126 after the Wednesday death of 166 people.

Telegram sent out numerous calls calling for demonstrations at the Reichstag’s parliament building during and before the debate.

Opponents to compulsory vaccination argue that this violates Article 2 of the Constitution. This article guarantees citizens full control of their own bodies.

According to an Allensbach survey, 12% of respondents could see themselves participating in anti-coronavirus protests. This was published Wednesday by Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
