San Jose votes to be first US city to require gun liability insurance -Breaking

(Reuters] – San Jose has backed legislation for the U.S. to require gun owners to obtain insurance to cover their guns.

After Tuesday’s vote by the San Jose City Council, the mayor stated that funds from the annual fee and liability insurance would be used to fund “evidence-based measures to reduce gun violence”

“Thanks to my council peers who continue to demonstrate their commitment to decreasing gun violence and its destruction in our community,” said Mayor Sam Liccardo in a statement.

The decision still needs to be approved next month at its final reading to take effect in August, U.S. media said https://cnn.it/3u2ik18.

The United States has one of the most sensitive political issues, guns, with the highest rates of gun ownership and the highest incidences of gun violence of all countries.

After five school shootings in which 5 children died, California was the first to ban assault guns in 1989. Giffords gun safety group reports that six states, as well as the District of Columbia, have an assault weapons ban.
