COVID-19 cases at highest ever in Americas -regional health agency -Breaking

BRASILIA (Reuters). -The number of COVID-19 infections in Americas over the last week has been at its highest levels since the outbreak in 2020. The very contagious Omicron strain is now the dominant strain.

Over 8 million cases have been reported this week. This is 32% more than last week. In addition, the number of deaths in the region has increased 37%. COVID-19 was responsible for 18,000 new fatalities.

According to the Regional Health Agency, America continues to be the country with the most new infections. However, cases have declined by almost 1 million in the past week.

According to the weekly briefing of PAHO, new infections in Mexico have increased by three times and Brazil has experienced a 193% increase in cases over seven days.

The Americas have the most severe educational crisis, with many children not returning to class. This is according to PAHO. It recommended countries to send them back safely to school in order to safeguard their mental, social and physical health.

They urged parents not to give their children vaccines.

PAHO reported that COVID vaccines have been approved by many countries and are being safely administered to adolescents in many of them.

Last week, the WHO’s expert group on immunization authorized the COVID vaccine developed by Pfizer Inc (NYSE.) is a regional agency that provides guidance to countries on how to develop vaccines.
