Following are some deadly U.S. passenger train crashes in recent years:

Feb. 4, 2018: An Amtrak passenger train that was diverted onto a side track slammed into a parked freight train in South Carolina, killing two crew members and injuring at least 116 others.

Jan. 31, 2018. An Amtrak passenger train transporting Republican Members of Congress to a West Virginia retreat collided with a truck on a Virginia rural road crossing. One person was killed. The train’s staff and lawmakers sustained no serious injuries.

December 18, 2017, Washington: Amtrak’s train was thrown off-track when it turned at twice its speed limit on a stretch of track. It sent three passengers cars into a bridge, killing one and injuring two others. Nearly 100 people sustained minor injuries.

September 29, 2016: The New Jersey Transit train collided with a Hoboken terminal killing the woman who was standing at the platform. 114 other people were injured.

April 3, 2016, Amtrak’s train from New York struck a backhoe while it was performing maintenance in Chester, Pennsylvania. The incident resulted in the deaths of two construction workers and 41 injuries.

May 2015: Amtrak passengers train derail in Philadelphia. The Amtrak train entered a curve traveling at 106mph (171 kilometers per hour), twice the speed recommended for 50-mph (80 km/h). Eight people were killed, and another 185 were sent to hospitals. The locomotive, seven passenger cars, and their train both went off the tracks.

December 2013, New York City: Four people were killed and at least 61 injured when a Metro-North train was derailed in the Bronx area of New York City. It was traveling at 82mph (132 km/h), before it entered the section of curves that is 30-mph (48 km/h) where it crashed.
