(Reuters). Streaming service Spotify has removed Neil Young’s music after the artist objected that his songs be played on the same platform which hosts Joe Rogan’s podcast. The musician and company announced Wednesday.

Young sent a letter to Warner Music Group earlier this week in which he demanded that Spotify stop carrying his music. Young claimed Rogan has spread misinformation regarding COVID-19 vaccines.

The “Heart of Gold”, and “Rocking In the Free World”, singers thanked their record labels for supporting him in his decision to remove all of my Spotify music. He also encouraged others to follow his lead.

On his website, he stated that Spotify had “become the home for life-threatening COVID misinformation.” “Lies sold for money.”

According to the Swedish firm, they tried to ensure “safety for listeners” as well as freedom for creators. They had also removed nearly 20,000 COVID-19 podcast episodes in compliance with their “detailed contents policies.”

Spotify released a statement saying that they regret Neil’s decision not to allow his music to be removed from Spotify but would like to have him back as soon as possible.

Rogan (54 years old) is host of the “The Joe Rogan Experience”, a top-rated podcast that Spotify owns.

With his opinions on the pandemic, the government mandates and the vaccines to stop the spread of coronavirus has caused controversy.

A letter was signed by 270 medical and scientific professionals urging Spotify not to ignore Rogan earlier this month. Rogan is accused of spreading lies on the podcast.

Young, aged 76, claimed that Spotify accounts for 60% in the worldwide streaming of his music. He said that the removal was “a tremendous loss for my records company to absorb.”
