REUTERS/Bobby Yap/File PhotographLONDON, (Reuters) – Standard Chartered, a lender that focuses on emerging markets said Thursday that it has appointed Marisa Drew, a sustainability expert and chief sustainability officer effective July 1.
Drew joined from Credit Suisse (SIX): She held a similar position and is an active member of many industry bodies related to sustainability, such as the Milken Institute Center for Strategic Philanthropy.
At StanChart, Drew will oversee the bank’s efforts to reach net-zero carbon emissions across its loan book and report to Simon Cooper, Chief Executive of Corporate, Commercial & Institutional Banking (CCIB).
Drew will join the CCIB Management Team.
This appointment is made as regulators and policymakers push banks around the world to be more involved in the transition to low-carbon economies, especially in emerging markets.
“The need to mobilise private capital at scale in developing markets is critical, and I look forward to partnering with the bank’s dedicated sustainability professionals and colleagues across the network to help build on this excellent foundation,” Drew said.
