(Reuters) – The FBI has arrested a Nevadan man accused of threatening a worker in state elections. He was part of a federal taskforce investigating what U.S. Justice Department called a “wave of similar crimes.”

Gjergi Juncaj (50) was taken into custody in Las Vegas and appeared in court on Thursday at U.S. District Court.

Juncaj was indicted on four counts of making threatening telephone calls. If convicted, Juncaj could spend up to two years behind bars.

Juncaj’s defense lawyer was unclear at the time.

Justice Department officials say they are investigating dozens of similar cases under a task force announced last June, shortly after Reuters published the first in a series https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/usa-trump-georgia-threats of investigative reports documenting threats against election workers.

A Texas man was last week charged with violent threats made against Georgia’s election and officials.

Prosecutors say Chad Christopher Stark from Leander (Texas) posted a Craigslist message entitled “Georgia Patriots It’s Time to Kill” on January 5, 2021.
