Chainlink Labs brings on the Co-Creator at Diem, Renowned Stanford cryptographer as technical advisorsChainlink Labs, the organization building Chainlink, the world’s largest decentralized oracle network, today announced that Diem co-creator and chief economist, Christian Catalini, and renowned Stanford cryptographer, Dan Boneh, have joined the company as strategic advisors. Catalini and Boneh are going to be focusing on development of Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol. This protocol is a decentralized global standard that allows for token movement, messaging, and data exchanges between blocks. Through CCIP users can move tokens across blockchains, execute smart contracts, and create cross-chain applications.
“From the moment we publicly announced our approach to Blockchain Interoperability via CCIP, many projects with multiple billion dollars worth of smart contracts have committed to using this protocol from launch,”
said Chainlink co-founder Sergey Nazarov.
To ensure that CCIP is launched as the safest cross-chain protocol, we have brought together the finest minds in cryptography. Christian and Dan are the two most highly-skilled academics in the industry. It is an honor to be guided by them as we construct this foundational architecture for multi-blockchain society.
Catalini, in addition to co-creating the Diem Project and being the Chief Economist of The Diem Association is also the founding father of the MIT Cryptoeconomics Lab. He is also a research scientist at MIT Sloan School. Catalini created the MIT Digital Currency Research Study in 2013, which allowed all MIT students to access cryptocurrency. Catalini is most well-known for his early and fundamental work in the areas of the economics and capital formation of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. He also has a strong interest in the economics and economics behind scientific collaboration. Catalini presented his research at renowned institutions including Harvard, Yale, MIT and UC Berkeley.
The blockchain industry is fast entering a world that will allow multiple chains to thrive. However, the ecosystems remain fragmented.
Dr. Catalini.
“The Chainlink oracle network can serve as a neutral and open layer that connects the world’s blockchains and I look forward to contributing to this vital piece of interoperability infrastructure.”
The author of more than a hundred publications in the field of cryptography, with an h-index of 123 and 87,000+ citations, Boneh heads the Applied Cryptography Group at Stanford and also serves as a co-director for Stanford’s Center for Blockchain Research, as well as its Computer Security Lab. An elected member of the National Academy of Engineering for his contributions to cryptography, Boneh’s research focuses on cryptosystems with novel properties, cryptanalysis, web security, and cryptography for blockchains. Hewlett Packard purchased Voltage Security (a cryptography startup) in 2015. Professor Boneh founded Voltage Security.
Security is essential for a cryptographic system that can secure significant amounts on multiple blockchains.
said Dr. Boneh.
“I was impressed with Chainlink Network’s capacity to scale up to service smart contracts within DeFi. I look forward working with the team on CCIP’s security, as it prepares for launch.”
Apart from their work on CCIP Catalini and Boneh will bring their crypto-economics expertise and cryptography knowledge to the Chainlink Labs research team to expand on the 2.0 whitepaper’s economics section.
The CCIP will also be protected by the Anti-Fraud Network. This is the first system that can prevent fraud from securing a blockchain bridge. The Anti-Fraud Network is a risk management tool. It will be managed by an independent network made up of Chainlink Oracle nodes. They monitor several blockchains to identify fraudulent activity, and then take steps to prevent financial loss.
