REUTERS/Clodagh KilcoyneFRANKFURT / Reuters – The fourth straight month of December saw lending to Euro zone companies accelerate, reversing a decline mid-year. This was according to data from the European Central Bank on Friday.
Although lending to businesses in the eurozone increased by 4.2%, following 2.9% in November, the rate of growth was still well below that recorded one year ago at 7.1%. The growth in household lending slowed to 4.1%, from 4.2%. This trend has remained steady since June.
The M3 annual growth rate, primarily a result of the ECB’s large bond purchases, slowed from 7.4% to 6.9%, which was just above market expectations of 6.8% growth.
