Lockheed selects Alabama and Georgia for next-gen air tanker plants -Breaking

WASHINGTON (Reuters). Lockheed Martin (NYSE:) Monday’s announcement by the Air Force that it would build a new mid-air refuelling tanker for its future Air Force aircraft in Alabama and Georgia prompted 1,300 jobs to be created between these two locations.

According to Larry Gallogly (director of Lockheed Martin Aeronautics’ LMXT Program), hiring and expansion at Mobile, Alabama and Marietta, Georgia sites are contingent on receiving the U.S. Tanker award. This was anticipated in 2024-2025.

U.S. Air Force launched a survey of the aerospace industry in June to find out if there is another manufacturer that has the ability or desire to build the next round of mid-air refueling tanksers. These will be similar to recently acquired KC-46.

Lockheed has joined forces with France’s Airbus to enter the contest that uses an Airbus Commercial plane as the base for the tanker.
