Sony to buy video game maker Bungie in $3.6 billion deal as video game consolidation heats up

Sony Interactive Entertainment agreed to buy Bungie, a videogame developer for $3.6 billion. This adds to the flurry in videogame consolidation this month.
Bungie developed the multiplayer shooter Halo and Destiny. The latter was its most recent game until 2010. Bungie, which was bought by Microsoft 2000 and later split from Microsoft 2007, was developed by Bungie.
Sony has acquired the company which helped Microsoft launch its first Xbox in 2001 with Halo.
It is the creator of “Halo”, the franchise. MicrosoftSince 2011,’s 343 Industries. Halo Infinite launched in 2021 on Xbox 360 and Windows.
Kenichiro Yoshida (Chief, President, and CEO of Sony Group Corporation) stated that Bungie created and is continuing to develop some of the most loved videogame franchises in the world.
