HOUSTON (Reuters). Reuters reports that U.S. crude oil refiners offered workers in union oil and chemical a 9% increase over the next three years. The offer was made as talk of a new labor deal nears a deadline.

Marathon Petroleum Corp (NYSE :).,, which represents oil refinery and pipeline companies) were looking to prevent a strike.

Shortly after midnight, the existing contract covering approximately 30,000 workers in the United States expires.
