Texas butterfly sanctuary closes due to conspiracy threats -Breaking

(Reuters] – Texas’s butterfly sanctuary at the Mexican border was closed indefinitely after a flurry of threats by former President Donald Trump supporters who claim it is part of sex trafficking ring.

The National Butterfly Center, Mission, Texas announced Wednesday that they will be closed temporarily due to “disruption by false and malicious attacks directed at political operatives.”

This indefinite shutdown follows a 3-day shutdown that occurred last weekend. It also coincided with McAllen’s meeting of border security advocates. Trump supporters included former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn who was pardoned in Trump’s final days as president.

Jeffrey Glassberg, founder and president of North American Butterfly Association stated that they are looking forward to reopening soon.

Trump supporters made the butterfly center an enemy by filing a 2017 lawsuit against Trump’s plan for a border wall. The suit claimed that the wall would damage wildlife, and would also cut off 2/3 of the nature preserve of 100 acres (40 hectares). This would “effectively destroy it.”

Marianna Trevino–Wright, Executive Director of the Center, told reporters that conspiracists had descended upon the center recently. She incited two women to ask for access into off-limits nature preserves so they could view “illegals crossing over on rafts.”

Trevino–Wright recorded the audio recording of the encounter. One woman claimed that the Butterfly Center had acquiesced to the rape of children, while another said she was with the U.S. Secret Service.

There was a scuffle that ensued, in which it appeared there had been a physical contact.

Other social media users have attacked the center, including one meme saying that the center constructed a dock at the Rio Grande’s northern bank to help smugglers.
