WASHINGTON (Reuters] – Two members of the Republican Party were set to be censured by U.S. officials on Friday. Over their participation in Congress’ investigation of former President Donald Trump’s attempt to end the 2020 election, Representatives Liz Cheney & Adam Kinzinger were censured.

Cheney, Kinzinger and others voted to impeach Trump for a charge of encouraging insurrection stemming from the Jan. 6 Capitol riot last year. These Republicans were the only ones participating in the House of Representatives’ official investigation of the attack.

Harmeet Dhillon (a member of the Republican National Committee from California) stated that the resolution criticizes Cheney and Kinzinger’s participation on Jan. 6 select panel.

Media reports claim that the move did not include a call to expel them from their party.

Trump has maintained a firm grip on his party’s power as the Nov. 8 congressional elections near. He is now actively attacking Republicans who stand in opposition to him. Republicans seek to oust President Joe Biden’s Democratic colleagues in the Senate and House of Representatives elections.

The statements were made by both legislators in preparation for Friday’s vote.

Cheney spoke of “the leaders of Republican Party” as he offered to take hostages to someone who confessed to trying to overturn the presidential election.

On Jan. 6, four people were killed and one Capitol Police officer was also injured. Around 140 officers sustained injuries, while four more died from suicide.

Cheney stated that she doesn’t recognize members of her party who have “abandoned” the Constitution in order to support Donald Trump. She also supported her opponent in the Wyoming Republican primary.

Kinzinger said that he is not running for re-election. He stated that he was a conservative Republican from before Trump became a politician. Kinzinger pledged to “fight the political matrix which’s brought us to this point.”

Some Republicans don’t support these two.

Republican Senator Mitt Mitt Romney described Cheney’s and Kinzinger’s honorability in a Twitter post (NYSE:) posted Friday. His post read, “Shame on a Party that would censure people of conscience, Who seek truth in spite of vitriol.”

Republican Senator Bill Cassidy stood by them late on Thursday in a Tweet: “The RNC censuring Liz Cheney & Adam Kinzinger as they are trying to determine what happened on Jan 6th.
