(Reuters.) – Here is a list of recent COVID-19 studies. These include additional research to confirm the findings, and which has not yet been certified by peer review.

COVID-19-related changes in the brains of COVID-19 patients are reminiscent of Alzheimer’s

Studies have shown that severe COVID-19 causes brain changes in people who are diagnosed with the disease. These include an abnormal accumulation of a protein called tau and amyloid plaques.

Andrew Marks, Columbia University’s professor of neuroscience and his colleagues examined the brains 10 COVID-19 victims. They found deficiencies in proteins known as ryanodine receptacles which control calcium passage into the cells. Defective ryanodine-receptors in Alzheimer’s disease are associated with tau accumulation into neurofibrillary “tangles”. These tangles were present in high levels in the COVID-19 patients’ brains, the Columbia team reported on Thursday in Alzheimer’s & Dementia. According to online reports, other researchers have also examined brains from COVID-19 patients and discovered abnormal levels of Amyloid. These reports were posted ahead of peer review via bioRxiv as well as on The Lancet’s preprint service.

All the patients who had suffered the worst forms of COVID-19 were included in the study. Marks stated that similar brain changes may be occurring in patients suffering from milder illnesses, which could explain “brain fog”, which is associated with COVID-19. Although patients suffering from severe COVID-19 could be at greater risk for developing dementia later in their lives, this is not yet known. The doctor advised patients to get the booster vaccine in order to prevent this virus from spreading. While COVID-19 is unlikely to cause death, we don’t yet know much about its long-term effects.

Seniors can have flu shots and the mRNA COVID-19 Booster together

New research confirms that senior citizens can receive the flu vaccine at high doses and the mRNA booster COVID-19 simultaneously.

Randomly, the 306 older participants in this study were assigned to one of two options: receive, or give. Sanofi Fluzone High-Dose Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccine and Third Shot of Moderna (NASDAQ.) You can either receive the mRNA vaccine in combination with the other vaccines or just one. The results of blood tests taken 21 days before and after vaccination revealed that the combination vaccines did not alter the immune response. The three groups produced similar amounts of antibodies, according to the report published in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine on Tuesday.

Sanofi spokesmen said the combined administration of COVID-19/influenza vaccines “didn’t raise any safety concerns” and that they continue to track study participants until 6 months after the vaccination.

Kids could get suffocated by fluid from rapid COVID test

Experts warn that the tiny bottle of “reagent fluid” contained in some COVID-19 quick test kits contains sodium azide. This powerful poison is especially dangerous for children.

According to Kelly Johnson-Arbor, Dr. Kelly Johnson is the Co-Medical director of National Capital Poison Center. Small doses of sodium azide in small quantities can lead to dangerously low bloodpressure, dizziness, fainting, heart attacks, strokes, and even death in adults. Her colleagues published their findings in The American Journal of Emergency Medicine. Johnson-Arbor stated that the sodium azide in COVID-19 quick test kits is not sufficient to cause low blood pressure in adults. The iHealth kits sent by the U.S. government contain no sodium azide. She said that children, who are often smaller than adults are more likely to experience poisonous effects from swallowing any sodium azide.

Reports of accidental exposure to the reagent fluid have come in from Poison Control Hotlines. Johnson-Arbor stated that people have accidentally swallowed, sprayed it on their skin and put it in their eyes. Johnson-Arbor also said Johnson-Arbor mistook the liquid for eye drops. Poison Control is notified immediately if the reagent liquid or the fluid gets in the eyes of a family member or friend.
