The Company That Put Björk On The Blockchain is Now Helping Protect Songwriter Rights

Blockpool.io created a custom sidechain from its blockchain to provide a revolutionary new system for song identifiers. Developed by music industry platform Family in Music and launching in Spring 2022, the system uses Blockpool’s core technology to create Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) that uniquely identify a songwriter’s participation in the creation of a song.

The combination of third-party Know Your Customer authentication (KYC), and audio fingerprinting creates an avenue that permits the tracking of your composition through Digital Service Providers, such as Spotify (NYSE), Apple (NASDAQ) and YouTube.

MgNTa is a quick way for people to join a song and identify themselves.

“We are delighted to have been chosen as the blockchain solution for Family in Music – and to help address the issues surrounding rights management in the digital streaming age,”
Blockpool.io’s CTO Tim Shank says so.

“The Blockpool chain is specifically suited to creating anonymous identifiers for both people and businesses – and verifying the provenance of their assets.”
The Rights Owners

“Blockpool offers us the best way to establish anonymous proof that we are who we really are,”
Kevin Bacon, chief innovation officer at Family in Music.

It allows traditional methods of identification to be combined and linked to the NFT structure, which is safe and controlled. It is then essential that in case of a dispute that we can reference that identity to a point in time – the point of registering a composition’s information and associating it with an off-chain asset.
Blockpool also has a customised technology that allows us to achieve this. It is possible to say “No.” This song, in this form, was recorded on the 31st of July 2019, and it was registered at 7.42pm by this person’ – so somebody else can’t make a claim on it. People cannot game the rights to music because it is difficult due to the Blockpool chain’s immutability, provenance, and inviolability.
Bjork requested Blockpool in 2017 to make it possible for her album Utopia to be purchased using four cryptocurrency, Audiocoin (ADC). ADC was also offered as a reward to all those who purchased the album. Blockpool’s chain has advanced considerably since then, allowing the creation of NFTs as unique identifiers of people and Intellectual Property.

“I’m still looking for a company that can develop blockchain technology, in particular, to work with me more,”
Bacon.
