Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

The index fell 1.73% at the NSE close.

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd., which gained 1.88% (or 3.95 point) to trade at 213.65 by the closing of session on the were the top performers. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (NS:), which gained 1.47%, or 2.50 points, to close at 172.10. NTPC Late trade saw Ltd (NS) rise 0.71%, or 0.95 point to 135.15

Tata Consumer Products Ltd. (NS) were the worst-performing session. They fell by 3.95%, or 29.00 points, to trade at 704.80 after the closing. HDFC Bank Ltd (NS) fell 3.66%, or 55.85 point to close at 1468.15. HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd was down 3.38% (21.10 points) to 603.25.

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. rose 1.88% (BO-) to 213.65, NTPC Ltd. was up 0.67% (BO-) to settle at 135.15, and Tata Steel Ltd. gained 0.57% (BO-) to close at 128.90.

The worst performers were HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:) which was down 3.65% to 1468.60 in late trade, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:) which lost 3.20% to settle at 1885.80 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:) which was down 3.15% to 6930.65 at the close.

On the India National Stock Exchange, falling stocks outnumbered those that were advancing by 1228, 614, and 41 respectively. The Bombay Stock Exchange was the opposite. 2026 declined and 1377 advanced while 142 ended the same.

HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd. shares (NS) plunged to 52 week lows.

The April delivery of Gold Futures was higher by 0.24%, or 4.25, to $1812.05 per troy ounce. In commodities trading, crude oil delivery for March dropped 1.05%, or 0.97, to $91.34 per barrel. The April Brent oil contract, however, fell 0.58%, or 0.54, to $92.73 per barrel.

USD/INR rose 0.08%, to 74.704; EUR/INR declined 0.12% to 85.3305

US Dollar Index Futures were up 0.1% at 95.575.
