(Reuters) – According to a filing by a federal court on Monday, a second suspect in a plot against Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s kidnapping in 2020 has pled guilty to testify in March.

Kaleb, 27 years old, will plead guilty, as per a deal between his lawyers and prosecutors, to kidnapping conspiracy. You could spend up to 30 years in prison for this charge.

Franks, along with four other defendants in the case, will stand trial March 23rd in U.S. District Court Western District of Michigan. Franks will confess to having conspired between June 2020 and October 2020 to kidnap Whitmer.

Another man pleaded guilty in August to conspiracy charges. After agreeing to testify against the other members of the “Wolverine Watchmen,” militia, he was sentenced just to six years.

Ty Garbin, the first person to be convicted for plotting to kidnap Whitmer at her vacation home. More than 12 men were charged by federal or state courts since the FBI discovered the plot to kidnap Whitmer from her vacation home.

According to Prosecutors, the suspects sought Whitmer’s arrest in revenge for the wide-ranging orders in public health imposed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Violent threats are becoming a more prominent factor in American politics. These threats include the hundreds who stormed Congress on January 6, 2021 to try to overthrow then-president Donald Trump’s defeat in November 2020.

Whitmer was a cochair for Joe Biden’s presidential campaign. He previously claimed that Republican Trump had hyped up far-right organizations as he decried COVID mitigation efforts in states controlled by Democrats.
