Torres was previously a justice minister and was selected Tuesday night to be the fourth Prime Minister of the President since his election last July.
Torres declared, flanked at the waist by ministers: “Our policy was the free market and free economic enterprise with the participation state to control monopolies. oligopolies. (other dominant positions)”.
Following the departure of the prior prime minister, heavily criticized over allegations of domestic violence which he denied, the cabinet re-shuffle occurred.
Torres will be seen as Castillo loyalist. He will help the president advance his agenda in an fragmented Congress that is dominated conservative opposition parties.
Oscar Graham, Finance Minister (NYSE:), was a centrist technocrat who worked previously at the central banking. He was retained in the new Cabinet which was a welcome development for both investors and business-friendly supporters.
Torres stated, “They won’t be able label us communists since we haven’t undertaken any actions which align with that policy ideology.”
He stated that the Cabinet will look to strengthen security, as well as South American’s COVID-19 program. This is what he called the key to economic development.
