(Reuters) – On Thursday, a 16-year old boy was taken into custody and charged with making bomb threats against seven schools that are predominantly Black in Washington. The incident occurred a day before.

The four high schools and three charter schools, which were evacuated following Wednesday’s bomb threats and later cleared, included Dunbar High School, which was threatened on Tuesday https://www.reuters.com/world/us/bomb-threats-force-evacuation-seven-washington-schools-2022-02-09 during a visit by U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband.

A teenager in Southeast Washington was arrested for making “terrorist threat,” according to the Metropolitan Police Department (NYSE:). The suspect was not identified by authorities, but the police said that the investigation was ongoing.

The spate of threats to bombs has not been linked to race by authorities. Police also stated Tuesday that it did not seem to have targeted Douglas Emhoff (Harris’ husband), who was in Dunbar as part of Black History Month.

The incidents raise fears in Black communities that have been rattled by recent bomb threats against at least twelve historically Black colleges or universities (or HBCUs) nationwide.

There were no explosives found in any of these HBCUs. However, the FBI is currently investigating potential threats.

The United States faces heightened threats from extremist groups, underscored by the bomb threats at many HBCUs, among other factors, the Department of Homeland Security said https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-warns-extremism-after-texas-synagogue-attack-bomb-threats-colleges-2022-02-07 on Monday.
