(Reuters). A man was accused of driving into a traditional Christmas parade close to Milwaukee in late 2013. He killed six and injured dozens.

Darrell Brooks, 39 years old, pleaded guilty to 77 counts, which included six counts for homicide, several counts for reckless endangerment and several others.

“Not guilty plea entered. After Friday’s proceeding, court records indicated that bail remains in effect.

Brooks will be held in jail on a $5million bail. According to the Wisconsin Circuit Court’s website, a hearing was scheduled for March 11.

Brooks, who is a Milwaukee citizen, was detained near the crime scene in November. Brooks was accused of driving an SUV into the Waukesha annual parade, which is about twenty miles west of Milwaukee.

Age ranged from 8 to 81 and also included members of the parade group “Milwaukee Dancing Grannies”. More than 60 were also hurt in the attack.

The incident was captured on video. It showed a red SUV speeding along the parade route, then entering the procession. It appeared to have run over several people. Bystanders ran from the sidewalks to assist.

Brooks was currently out on bail for a domestic abuse matter and was suspect in another violent altercation at the time.

This incident attracted the attention of President Joe Biden who described the attack as “horrific” and Pope Francis.
