INGLEWOOD (Reuters) – The $5.5 billion new SoFi Stadium hosts Sunday’s NFL championship game. It is expected to become the hottest Super Bowl Sunday ever.

Expect temperatures to hover in the middle of the 80s. The architects who designed the stadium, which is “indoor-outdoor”, said that it would be sunny and warm.

Lance Evans (HKS director of sports, and also the architect behind the stadium’s design) said that the stadium’s unique curved structure and aerodynamic canopy were inspired from the Southern California coast to encourage natural cooling.

“Because there are no walls — the roof is ‘anchored’ at four different spots — fans feel the Pacific breeze while ‘inside’ the 70,000-seat stadium,” Evans told Reuters in an email.

Zahner CEO Bill Zahner said that perforations in the canopy are a way to allow hot and cold air out.

Zahner stated that even the colour of the canopy was intentional – the customized white facade panels reflect the sun’s ultraviolet light.

The 14-acre roof is covered with LED screens that display images of all sorts. It serves as an “welcome card” for passengers landing at Los Angeles International Airport.

INFINITY SKEEN

“@RamsNFL bring another Ring to LA!” Earvin Johnson, the great Lakers player, tweeted that he had seen the stadium where the LA Rams will face off against the Bengals on Sunday.

Fans are welcomed inside by an infinity screen with 360° viewing angles that can be seen from all sides. This screens draws fans in no matter their location in the stadium.

The screen measures more than 125 feet in length and 75 feet wide and it is one of the biggest ever built for a sporting venue.

It includes the stadium that can seat more than 100,000 spectators, and also features a theatre with 6,000 seats, a plaza measuring 2.5 acres, and a park for the community of 25 acres.

There is more.

Hollywood Park will soon see the opening of commercial and residential properties. The centerpiece is SoFi which Stan Kroenke, Rams owner, has funded.

SoFi is filling quickly.

It will host the College Football Playoffs in 2019, the Super Bowl in 2026 and the Olympics Opening Ceremony in 2028.

Mark Williams is a HKS global director. He stated that “we wanted the living room to be in Inglewood, while creating a global stage.”

“It will become very prominent as it hosts massive events such as the Super Bowl.”
