Chevrolet reboots, updates ‘The Sopranos’ intro for Super Bowl ad

Chevrolet revised and rewrote the opening sequence of HBO’s series “The Sopranos” to surprise Super Bowl advertisers for its electric Silverado pickup trucks.

Chevrolet updated and rebooted the intro sequence from HBO’s “The Sopranos”, in surprise Super Bowl ads for the new Silverado pickup truck.

The commercial, “New Generation”, lasted 60 seconds and was broadcast during the opening quarter. General MotorsSuper Bowl ads have a habit of releasing previews and teasers before the event, which has made it a common practice.

Although the commercial features many of the same scenes as before, instead of Tony Soprano (played by James Gandolfini) driving a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban SUV it is Meadow, the daughter of the mob boss, played in part by Jamie Lynn Siegler. 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV.

CNBC spoke with Steve Majoros (Vice President of Chevrolet Marketing), who said, “It’s an alternative way of showcasing ‘The Sopranos’ and showcasing Chevrolet. It felt like the nice thing it to do.” There’s no better platform than CNBC to showcase a truck that is so important for our company.

The spot features the original theme song of the show, “Woke Up This Morning” by British band Alabama 3. End it with Meadow and her brother A.J. being reunited. Robert Iler plays the actor while John Cusack does voiceovers. This is a new truck that will be embraced by a new generation.

The commercial was directed by David Chase who is also the creator of the show and its director. Phil Abraham, who is responsible for photography of “The Sopranos’ original title sequence, assisted him in his direction. It aired from 1999 to 2007 on HBO.

Majoros claimed that company decided not to tease the commercial because it liked the “idea of a huge statement that comes out of nowhere”.

Chevrolet’s last Super Bowl ad appearance was in 2015. The surprise advertisement made it look like a TV blackout just prior to the start of the game. Chevrolet Colorado’s pickup featured 4G LTE built-in to allow for viewing the game during a power cut.

The second Super Bowl ad by GM is “The Sopranos”, which is the reboot of this series. This was the company’s earlier this week released a 60-second adBefore the game, actor and comedian Mike Myers claimed his character as Dr. Evil in the trilogy of spy comedy “Austin Powers.”
