U.S. Assistant Attorney General Lisa Monaco stated that the Federal Bureau of Investigation would be intensifying its enforcement efforts in digital asset space enforcement with the establishment of a brand new team.

Monaco, Thursday 24 April 2007: Speaking at Munich Cyber Security Conference the FBI was creating a “specialized team dedicated to cryptocurrency” called the Virtual Asset Exploitation Unit. It will have crypto experts, as well as the tools for blockchain analysis. This could be used in tracking and seizing illicit funds.
