WINDSOR (England) – News of Queen Elizabeth’s positive test for COVID-19 in Britain drew concern, shock and goodwill messages from all over the country, as politicians and the general public hoped that the queen would recover.
A handful of tourists arrived at Windsor Castle, where the queen was receiving treatment for mild symptoms. Some others reached out online for support. The London Underground message boards encouraged the monarch “take it easy”
People were disturbed by news that the longest-serving monarch in the world pulled out from a variety of important events. She also spent one night in hospital last Oct, sparking concerns about her health.
Rupert Wills (Julie) and Julie Wills (Rupert), visited Windsor, west London. They said that they love the queen “to pieces”, while Rupert praised her ability “quietly get along with” everything. Sanil Solanki (43), described her as “the nation’s mother.”
Gerard Smith (19 years old) was shocked to hear the news. His words were, “Everyone love her.” She can do no wrong. She has been with me my entire life, and nearly everyone’s. This is very sad. We hope she gets through it.
Boris Johnson, British Prime Minister, led the official response. He stated that he believed he spoke on behalf of the nation when the British prime minister wished for the queen’s quick recovery and an immediate return to vital good health.
Keir Sternmer, the Opposition leader said that “Get well Ma’am.” Others simply tweeted “God Save The Queen”
U.S. Embassy London conveyed its best wishes. Fabian Picardo was the chief minister in Gibraltar and described the queen, referring to Britain’s territory, as “a rock”.
This widespread support comes after the 70-year anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s quiet accession to the throne. She was the first British sovereign so honored.
According to the Palace, the Queen was suffering from mild symptoms. She was being expected to carry out “light duties” for the next week.
To keep with the theme, the Queen released shortly thereafter a statement praising British curling women for their Olympic gold in Beijing.
She said, “I am sure that the people of your country and your communities will send their best wishes to you and your coaches.”
