U.S. Supreme Court turns away Dakota Pipeline operator’s appeal -Breaking

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The U.S. Supreme Court rejected Tuesday’s bid by Dakota Access Oil Pipeline Operator Energy Transfer (NYSE:) LP in order to prevent additional environmental review for a section which runs beneath an artificial lake, and is opposed nearby Native American tribes.

Justices upheld a lower court ruling that required the federal government’s to conduct a thorough environmental review of the route of the pipeline underneath Lake Oahe. This area straddles North Dakota and South Dakota borders. As the review takes place, the pipeline will still be in operation.
